Convert JSON values to readable YAML
JSON maps directly to a useful subset of YAML, but YAML has additional syntax and type rules. Review strings that resemble dates, booleans, or numbers when another parser will consume the result.
Example input
{"service":"api","ports":[8080,8081],"enabled":true}Expected output
service: api ports: - 8080 - 8081 enabled: true
Behavior
- Converts nested objects and arrays using indentation.
- Preserves JSON null, boolean, number, and string value types.
- Quotes values when needed to avoid ambiguous YAML syntax.
Limits and edge cases
- JSON has no YAML comments, anchors, aliases, or custom tags to preserve.
- Object-key ordering is presentation, not a semantic guarantee.
- Round trips through YAML parsers can differ for ambiguous scalar syntax.
